Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-06-2019 The Polaris supreme departed today on Bill Stephens annual eight day trip. We got a nice early start and are hoping to arrive at our final destination in a few days bright and early. We have a great group of guys/and one girl heading south excited about the signs that Alec saw last trip on the simpatico trip. No pictures yet will save that for when we start catching something.  Good morning.  It's morning time for me.  1:53 am.  I'm  writing about yesterday.  I'd call it good fishing.  Nothing crazy, just steady scratch fishing for most of the day.  Same old grade, 14-22 pounders.  Same basic grounds.  It was a lot more fun than that sounds though.  Come on, good fishing on a good grade of fish.  What more could we ask for?  Better weather? OK.  But sometimes you get wind.  When life gives you lemons...  Seriously though, we had a whole lot of wind today.  Here's the thing though.  The boat drifted great.  We may have had over 20 knots of wind, but the boat drifted like we had 10.  A little wind burn and some chapped lips is all.  As long as the fish bite and no one gets hurt.

 Good fishing or not, we decided to take a break from that wind this afternoon.  We made a little move where the wind gets blocked by The Island.  What a difference.  I compared it to sitting in a spa.  Just that, aaahhhhhhhhh feeling.  We even caught some fish.  There were some spots of YT's up and at dark we caught 4 grouper, a halibut and a tail on a drift.  Then we anchored up for Seabass and had dinner.  We haven't caught a Seabass yet but we're hoping at or just before daylight we get some.  One boat had some around these parts yesterday.

 So that's it.  We'll be here again tomorrow.  20 minutes left on my watch and I'll be going back to bed for a few more hours.  Stay classy everyone and thanks for stopping by.

 Good afternoon, on our final afternoon of the 7th Annual Blue-White Industries Charter.  I'm looking out the window of the wheel house while I write you guys at just amazing weather and waiting for another beautiful sunset. This was by far the best trip yet that Robin has put together.  The fishing ended with a day that was second to none. Just about picture perfect weather, fishing that boiled down to if you wanted a limit of Yellowfin tuna, you could have had it. Most of the guys were catching and releasing long before lunch time. You couldn't ask for it to be any better!  I've personally been on every trip that Robin has put together, and we saw total improvement since the first year. The guys work great together at the rail, followed their fish, and even handled almost all og their own tackle rigging needs. I was impressed at how far they've come. Way to go guys!
 Robin asked me to share some notes from himself personally so I shall. "This 5 day Charter was perhaps our most interesting trip yet. Non-stop yellowfin tuna fishing in 100% American waters. Daily jackpot fish were all over 30 lbs. The Polaris Supreme is by far the finest run long-range sportfishing boat in the San Diego fleet. 5 staruisine, top tier crew Captain TommyRothery, 2nd Captains Tommie "Gunny" Miles and Jed Scott, deckhands Mark Clark and Mikey Mays, and galley crew Chef David Schooler and last but not least Gringo". 
 So for the final night cuisine Chef is preparing a roasted rosemary organic chicken with white wine gravy, mashed potatoes and French cut green beans with mushrooms followed by nice big hot-fudge sundae to end it. We certainly do not go hungry around here. We certainly can't forget the wine of the evening, 2011 Argyle "Nut house" Pinot Noir.
  So in closing, we missed all who couldn't make back on this final Blue-White Charter, although there are some rumors of some future outings with some of the guys, but we shall see. But On behalf of myself and the rest of the Polaris Supreme crew, with thank Charter Master extrodanaire Mr. Robin Gledhill and his sons Rob and Taylor for 7 amazing year on the boat!

Good evening everyone, Today we spent the day searching for yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, and Wahoo. The conditions were poor but we still managed to scratch up some Wahoo. Not an incredible volume of fish but all still very appreciated. We are hoping for good current tomorrow so hopefully the fish decide to chew. We are going to fish the same area tomorrow. Capt Mike Pritchard called in a wrap up from their 1.5 day trip, the fishing was great we ended the trip with 121 Yellowfin Tuna and 68 very nice grade Yellowtail. We had good weather and flat seas, looks like we have more Yellowfin moving up. We do have a few openings for a trip leaving on Thursday, if you want to get on this trip give the landing a call 619-224-3383. Our trips are starting to fill up fast with all these fish around, now is the time to get in on the action.

Captain Mike Pritchard called this afternoon and called in to report 45 Yellowfin Tuna in the 12 to 18 pound class. We did hook up a few larger Bluefin Tuna but lost them all. We are now in the zone and look forward to putting together a nice catch. We will be fishing this area all day tomorrow as we are on a 2.5 day trip. Stay tuned ...

Fishing in the morning started slow. Several schools of yellowtail with no success. But by mid-morning things started to happen. They bit well into the late afternoon. The guys released lots of the yellowtail. We then took off off shore for kelp patties with yellowfin, but only found a few dorado. Our weather is good. Tomorrow we are going to go looking for yellowfin. Dinner tonight was Drew's favorite Osso Buso with parmesan potatoes and veggies. Really tasty.

Good evening, friends. Sorry for the lack of reports. Not a whole lot of excitement going on the with us on the Supreme but around the fleet, is an entirely different story. More on that later.

For us, it's been a lot of work down in the guts of the vessel, ensuring that the Polaris Supreme is running at tip-top performance. On Friday, the day finally arrived: Coast Guard "top side" inspections. At times, the thought of Coast Guard can be somewhat daunting for some boats. For us, it's no big thing. With our weekly maintenance schedules that we perform throughout the year and quality of care that Tommy has given to his beautiful ninety-two foot sportfishing yacht, Coast Guard is no big thing. We appreciate what these people do for us, which is make sure that the vessel operates properly and continues to take our passengers time and time again and return safely. On this day, they also made sure that our crew could properly handle a man overboard situation. In short, we passed with flying colors and as for the operation of the vessel, all is fine for the exception of a couple "minor" things, we passed. We're pumped. This next week Drew, Tommie, Mark, Jamie, our electrician guru Greg Hibbs, master carpenter Steve Russo and myself will take care of the few items that we need cross off the list before our follow-up appointment with the USCG. Our fishing season is nearing and things are starting to get very interesting on the water.

I'm sure most of you read the reports from the boats our on trips right now. Bluefin tuna in the 25-40 lb. class as well as some beauties in the 60-100 lb. category are biting, the Royal Star has captured the first Albacore of the season, a couple Bluefin have also been captured in the day and a half range and spotter planes have been flying around some of the local waters and have seen a few fish as well as some tasty looking conditions. Bottom line, it's time. It's time to get yourself on a trip. Call Susan ASAP, ask what trips have openings and get on a trip now. This crew is ready to go. Let's make it happen. It's just around the corner and you aren't going to want to miss a shot at what is shaping up to be a tasty summer season.
