devil`s lake Fishing Report 2024

The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego. Hands down the best fishing the AZTEC has ever seen!! Our standouts were a 321lb, 298lb, & 292lb. We also had 48 more Bluefin from 50-120lbs and 407 Yellowfin!!

Good morning everyone, Today started out slow. A slight wind and a racing current made it it difficult to fish in the early morning. However by around seven o clock a switch turned on and the yellows wanted to chew. The sea came alive with eager mossbacks. Eating everything but really keying in on the surface action. The fly line sardine and surface iron really were the super stars today. We were really able to pick off these yellowtail as they made their rounds crashing around the boat. We stayed busy all morning until lunch time when we had to pull it and head north. What a great half day of fishing! Really makes you appreciate days like today when it all comes together and everyone is able to catch fish. Will report again tomorrow, Team supreme

14 Anglers, 23 Yellowtail, 47 Bonito.  Tomorrow’s trip (Nov 13) has been cancelled due to lack of reservations.

Went 1 for 2 on local Yellowtail. Fish are holding tight to the bottom, much like the one's we've been seeing regularly at the Coranado Islands. Our guess is that fish is moving north. This one ate a sardine on the dropper loop. We have Monday open for charter, then some days in July. Come on out and enjoy the fishing. 

Rosemont Media private charter brought out 21 passengers and they “made them pay”. They landed limits of yellowfin before noon. We recommend having a rod to fish 30-50lb test when the tuna are eating everything in the water.

We started in the rain, loading passengers and loading bait. Now we're full steam rolling down in nice weather. There is reports of bad weather down below but we're traveling the correct direction for it not to effect us. We hope this trip is in perfect time with the perfect weather. We'll most likely start the trip off with an afternoon of yellowtail fishing before we decide on where we're going from there.
