I told you all we would be departing today on a 5 day trip on my last report and I have to tell yah, that's exactly what we did. We're out on a private charter with Mr. Pfleger and some of his boys. Things went alright at the bait receivers. We got two boxes of a mostly spanish mackerel with some greenies and about a 7.375 average of sardines mixed in. Things are looking a little scary with our sardine stocks of San Diego this year thus far. You may want to make sure you pack your bait catching rigs if you're coming out this year and also think about getting your anchovy fishing skills back. You may need them.

We're thinking about starting offshore tomorrow on a southerly track. We're not going to put the brakes on and fish locally where most the tunas been caught lately. We're going to put ourselves in position to do other things the next couple days after tomorrow. We may look for white sea bass and yellows somewhere down the line. It's not something we'd do on a normal long range trip but this is a special one. I'll explain later. You know how Pfleger is with his sea bass.

 There really isn't much to report today.. We didn't fish.  We traveled all day.  We chose to fish later last night in the windless lee of Cedros catching yellows, tuna, and seabass instead of going offshore in the wind/swell and most likely catching nothing or small tuna.  I think we made the right choice.  We had a bit of a bumpy ride last night, or so I'm told.  As usual I slept through it.  We were almost to the coast when I woke up for my watch, so things were a lot smoother.  So today we slept in and had a late breakfast of biscuits and gravy.  The crew got our scrub on while the customers read, hung out and played poker.  After lunch, on cue, most of the boat took a nice nap.  Now dinner is at it's end and my watch is almost over and I'm ready for bed.

 We'll be arriving tomorrow at 6:00 in the morning.  We should have a fairly quick turn around and we'll be back out again, this time for 4.  I'll be taking her out and I'm not sure where we'll go yet.  Fishing right now is at that stage where things need to and will change very soon.  We just hope we're in the right place when they do.
       

The spring Season is nearly upon us and we will be taking the Apollo to Santa Barbara for the rockfish opener and hopefully a productive seabass season. Hi friends. Typical day aboard a long range boat today. All of the deck crew was up at 0230 hours dealing with a maintenance issue that took a couple hours to resolve, back to bed for roughly an hour, wake up and start our day--hey now, that Ice Cube tune just came on 90's on 9 as I type again and yes, today was in fact a good day--off with some jig strikes on those beautiful 25-50 lb. yellowfin with only a handful of those 12-18 pounders in the mix. We hit a couple of schools throughout the day, had our normal slow time around lunch and in the afternoon time, just as I was half way through my strawberry popsicle, we got on a breezer, I reluctantly ditched my popsicle, and we drifted the rest of the day nailing those big yellowfin tuna. After drifting for the rest of the day, we put out the sack with a couple hours of daylight and the six people who were at the rail continued to catch fish on the sea anchor all the way until dark.

Excellent fishing on that really good grade of tuna. With only a few handfuls of that small fish and dorado, those big fish really were on it today and we'll be here tomorrow to try this all over again. Hopefully tonight we'll make some squid and this weather will come down a little bit. It's a little rolly out here but as long as we're catching beautiful tuna, we won't complain too much. See ya.

Here comes the 2008 season and I have some openings to share with you.  The First is a trip with the phiscadores, this is a 2-day which departs on Sunday night, June 22nd.  This trip takes a light load.  Usually 12 or 15 people. We arrived at the dock this morning at 7:30 and would like to thank Ron Heil again for putting such a great group together. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. We are off again with the Let's Talk Hook-up charter. Pete was unable to come but we have Ryan, who is also from the show, as our charter head. Needless to say he was happy to step in for Pete. Wish us luck and check in again tomorrow.
