comox valley Fishing Report 2024

Took off today on a 5-day and we are hearing that the albacore took off in the morning but then died, but the prospects for yellowtail are great. So we will look for the yellowtail first thing in the morning. Our weather is absolutely gorgeous. For dinner we dined on a boneless Cornish Game hen with a summer favorite, fresh zucchini, and a side of fettuccini. Very tasty. Thanks for checking in. Tommy and Crew

July 31

This morning we had a good drift. We drifted along for a few hours catching mostly 40-70 pounders sometimes with as much as 5 going at a time. Unfortunately at around 9:30 am it stopped biting. We tried to be patient but it was done. After that it was a very slow day for the whole fleet. Most of the fish went down and the schools we found the rest of the day didn't want to play. A little before dark they got back in the mode and we had a nice stop on which started off 12-18 pounders and then turned into 30-40 pounders. That's it for this trip. We're headed back to the dock and are scheduled for a 6:00 eta. The big guy Tommy Rothery is taking the boat out for a 6 day trip and Richie will be coming back out too so the reports should get more entertaining. I'll be going home to hang with my lovely wife and needy dog. Take care all.

Capt. Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're still having very good fishing. We've caught 45 Yellowfin tuna, 10 Dorado & limits of Yellowtail. We're seeing very good signs of fish down here, a lot of Yellowtail.

"We do have a 1.5 Dy trip leaving tomorrow night. Right now we only have 9 people signed up. That trip is a definite go, so if you like fishing on a light load call Seaforth Landing at 619-224-3383."

Ryan Bostian checked in with a report from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. Today we had 15 anglers catch 9 Bluefin Tuna (60-80 lbs) 1 Yellowfin Tuna (25 lbs). Capt Cameron and the boys had a fine day.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-06-2016 Good Afternoon everyone, Today we departed on our annual Ranta 5 day. We cleared the point at 11 AM, topped off with a load of sardines, headed south in hopes of some nice august exotics. We have a tackle seminar scheduled for later this afternoon followed by chef Mikes world famous Prime Rib dinner. Finger licking good, cant wait! Until tomorrow, Team Supreme

Today we had some decent Tuna and Wahoo fishing. It was for sure a grind but we were able to capitalize on a few shots on both Tuna and Wahoo. The Wahoo were good grade and really keyed in on the mackerel we caught last night. So it was as good thing we put in the work in to catch them! The shot at tuna yielded a great grade of fish . 20-40 lbers. The only downside is that they quit biting when the current died. Tomorrow we will try for wahoo and Dorado on kelps wish us luck ! Polaris Supreme Report 07-14 -2016 #2 Well our yellowtail bite we had going on this morning never ended. It lasted almost 12 hours. Constant action all day long! Surface iron fish was insane! Everything we threw at them pretty much got bit. What a day and what an amazing grade these fish where! Definitely the best yellowtail fishing we have had this year! The plan for tomorrow is to use this beautiful weather to our advantage to hopefully load up on some Tuna! POLARIS SUPREME TRIP UPDATE FOR 11-02-2020 TO 11-07-2020 Well what have we been up to the last 6 days? We departed early on day zero, the Second in good weather and with a great group of passengers. The group is a composite of Jim Holeman's group , Stan Vanderburg's , Clarence Cole and friends and a few others. All solid fun anglers. On departure we loaded up some great looking sardines we hope to last 10 days. Stan spent the day passing out an unbelievable amount of give away's and setting up a prize of a rod and reel for the first tuna caught over 30 lbs and a reel for the the first wahoo caught on a home made lure. The weather was beautiful . Day one was a travel day spent doing our usual fishing seminar, Stan passing out more swag, rigging, eating and napping in good weather. Day two started off looking for kelp patty's holding Dorado and Wahoo. After a morning with no luck we deployed our own FAD ( Fish Aggregating Device) with a satellite buoy. Late in the day we got into good fishing on 12 to 40 pound Yellowfin tuna that saved the day. Day three wahoo fishing was pretty good and the tuna was in the 12 to 15 lb. range with no sign of the 20 to 40 lb. one's. Still great weather. Day four we where hoping for a repeat on the wahoo that didn't happen. Saddened by a Sukey morning we busted a move to check out our FAD. Holey Mollee 48 Hour's soaking and the thing was loaded with Dorado! We spent an hour or so catching and releasing before heading to some new tuna grounds. Some of you are wondering why we keep so few Dorado now days? Well you see 2 Dorado count as 5 fish in your over all fish count and most anglers only keep a couple if any at all choosing to catch and release. Arriving at the tuna grounds to slow fishing we where stoked to see it go wide open at dusk making it a great Tuna Dorado day in Slick Calm Weather. Day five making a big move today! Scratched a few Tuna this morning and hit the road trying to beat the massive storm hitting California. Weather is still OK. Will check in in a few days.
