Mike Pritchard called in this morning with this report for the Tribute. "We've had a very nice start here this moring. A couple of kelps have been absolutely fantastic. Great Yellowtail fishing to go along with some Yellowfin and Dorado. We caught 160 Yellowtail out of 2 drifts. A lot of the fish were caught on surface irons, swimbait and even poppers.

"We are now targeting some tuna or maybe some Dorado. We'll keep you informed."

Our 80 yellowfin and 34 skipjack did not come easy today. 15 stops on schools that were big enough to catch 500 if they were in the right mood. Beautiful weather and amazing sign of fish.

Drew Henderson brought Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 31 following a five-day trip to Guadalupe and Benitos. Guadalupe yellowfin swept the jackpot. The Benitos yellows were good-sized, with one 46.6-pound whopper being the best of the species caught there, by Kub Ito of harbor City. Dan Tran of Hawthorne won first place, for a 98-pound yellowfin he bagged with a sardine on a 4/0 Super Mutu hook dangled under a balloon. He said he fished with 40-pound Big Game line, an Avet LX reel and a Shimano eight-foot rod. Phil Hidey of Arcadia was second, for a 75.4-pounder, and Joe Beck, a regular long ranger and retired LA motorcycle officer won third place, for a 63.6-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna.

Capt Ryan Bostain of the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing with a Coronado Islands update, 25 anglers and caught 111 Yellowtail from 10 to 30 pounds. The best fishing we have had this year, so get your bring a 25 pound live bait rod and some 4/0 hooks and some sliding egg sinkers for the mackeral. We got some on flylined anchovies and some fish bit the surface iron. Bring all your Yellowtail gear and come on down, we run the trips every day. 101 Yellowtail, 58 Bonito. Full size yo-yo lures, dropper loops with 10-12 oz sinkers and some fresh 40 lb mono is all you need.

After spending all day yesterday searching for yellowtail without success. Today we decided to put the feelers out and look at some new areas. After a couple hours of searching we found exactly what we were looking for. The yellowtail we found today were really active for about an hour. In one hour our 15 anglers managed to put 20 very nice size yellowtail on the deck. Our yellowtail today were caught on yo-yo lures, surface lures as well as fly lined sardines. Make sure you bring a bait rod to go with your yo-yo rod from here on out.
