Capt Ryan Bostain of the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing with a Coronado Islands update, 25 anglers and caught 111 Yellowtail from 10 to 30 pounds. The best fishing we have had this year, so get your bring a 25 pound live bait rod and some 4/0 hooks and some sliding egg sinkers for the mackeral. We got some on flylined anchovies and some fish bit the surface iron. Bring all your Yellowtail gear and come on down, we run the trips every day. Our morning started off at 4:30. There was some good meter life on the first spot we looked at so we woke everyone up to try it and we had it figured out in the first 45 minutes. A few good grade yellows and a whole lot of smaller ones so we brought the lines in and continued down. An hour later we tried another spot for some more nice yellows but not enough so we continued down. The next spot a couple hours later was a disappointment. Not much yellowtail and not much wahoo. We got one wahoo almost to gaff before it spit the hook and swam away. So we continued down. The next spot we tried produced one beautiful wahoo and showed pretty decent sign of good grade yellowtails that didn't bite like you'd think. We caught some but it didn't keep us anchored up till sunset so we continued down. 1:30 hours later we were anchored up on our last spot of the evening and again it showed pretty good sign of yellows that bit pretty good for us up until dark. It was good enough to stay put and try it in the morning. We might of caught 1 million dorado today. I lost track at around one hundred and three but it might have been around 1 million. Unfortunately most of these dorado weren't much bigger then a neck tie and we let most go to fight another day. The weather was windy today. Wind and swell but for some reason it wasn't bad fishing weather. Maybe because our usual direction we worked was down but even when we would slide on a jig strike we never took any mean snaps. The wind came down after the sun went down so we're hoping it stays down.

Polaris Supreme docked at Fisherman's Landing July 24 following a five-day, 24-passenger charter with owner-skipper Tommy Rothery, who was credited by other skippers with finding a new area of albacore to the west of the previous location. Brad Donnelly of San Clemente won first place on the Tuna Trackers trip, for a 52-pound yellowfin. He said he took it with a sardine on a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook and 40-pound Soft Steel line. He used a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 6465 H rod. Mike O'Donnell of Palmdale was second, for a 45-pound albacore. Jason Severen of Petaluma tied with Tom Donnelly of San Clemente for third place. Each had a 42-pound albacore.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this evening to update everyone on today's trip at Punta Colonett.

We had limits of Lingcod and limits of Rockfish (mostly reds).

We are no kicking back watching the NFL playoffs. That's right! The Tribute has DirecTV on the boat.

And everyone is getting ready for our tri-tip dinner.

The Tribute finished off the day with 165 Yellowfin Tuna, 14 BluefinTuna and 1 Skipjack for the 33 anglers on board.

 

Hi friends. This morning's action on Yellowfin tuna was just the type of fishing we were looking for. Steady jig strikes and some bait fish to go along with the trollers. One problem; no size. All of the tuna we hooked this morning were successfully released and it was back on the prowl for bigger and better things. We once again found good water conditions but the lack of any sign of pelagic species was somewhat unsettling and we decided to do make the run to the "Numbers" around lunch-time. It took us a while to get the proper deal located and when we did, it was game on for Yellowtail in the 12-20 lb. range. To add some color to our Yellowtail catch, we also caught three Bluefin tuna, a couple of 30 lb. Yellowfin tuna, a handful of Dorado, and Garry Roberts caught a Gold Spotted Sand Bass. Pretty cool looking fish. Anyhow, this group took what they needed from the Yellowtail garden and began just having fun catching and releasing 'tails. I'd estimate that we released well over seventy-five quality Yellows, we even released a good majority of the 20 pounders. I have three highlights from this spot. One; On our way into the spot, two Killer Whales charged the boat and had Drew as excited as I've ever seen about whales. They checked us out for a minute and then were on their way again. Two; We had a Whale Shark get close enough to the boat that I'm sure if we tried, we could've successfully and safely boarded all passengers and crew on top the beast and then return back onto the boat. Simply amazing, humbling creatures. Three; "Big John" Korgy, Fisherman's Landing gate security person re-wrapped my 9'3" Ulua with an all yellow wrap, greenish guide wraps, and a Chiquita banana sticker. I call this gem "the Big Banana" and I brought it down for some of the passengers to test their skills. It was pretty fun watching the guys get their butts handed to them and Jed took some great photos of Mr. Roberts pulling on a Yellowtail with the long rod. I must say thank you to John as the rod is simply stunning. Just an awesome day. Once again the weather was A , with once again having premium bronzing conditions all day with sunshine and a light breeze.

 

To round out our day, a gigantic kelp paddy floated by and with just an hour of daylight left in our busy day, we managed to capture a box-full of beautiful Dorado as the sunset. Great half-day of fishing for us on the Supreme. Tomorrow, we'll be looking for tuna and wahoo and we'll decided our next plan of attack from there. Wish us luck and take care.

Another day of albacore fishing was productive again today. We had a little over a hundred today but seemed we should of had a lot more. A lot of non biting schools. Where have we seen that before all year? Oh yeah, right there. We're now heading to the south to fish offshore kelps for yellows and dorado. Weather is good. A big ground swell but not much wind on it. Lunch was awesome, some sort of salmon dish and dinner I couldn't even name so I won't try but it was fantastic. By the way, the albacore are all fatties. 30-40 pounders.

Had an insane stop on Long range size Yellowfin. 3 hours later we ended up with 11 fish. Lost as many. Had 7 going at once, for our 6 anglers! Good stuff
