Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-3-2012 Report

 

The last travel day of the trip. Yes we get in tomorrow morning at 8 am. The boat will have one night in and then we're off with the O.T.R. group on a 10 day trip. Last night we stopped and played a game called flying fish. Myself, Matty and Mark got down. I live for competition. Your parents always teach you it doesn't matter if you win or lose as long as you tried your best. That's a bunch of crap. Winning is everything. I scored 18 points with 1 assist taking the trophy. Yup Lon, we got you some flyers for the kite. Today's just like the rest of travel days. There's a movie going, people hanging out outside in this nice weather and some zzz's going down as well. Jeremy's vacation is over today. He just got cell phone reception so income the texts so he's staying busy.

 Hello October and hello you all and welcome back to the Polaris Supreme.  We were off for a week if you didn't notice.  The crew, we all did our own thing except for Tuesday and Wednesday we all got together for a little maintenance.  And now we're back out here. We all came back to the boat talking about how great we cook wahoo.  "I cooked it this way, you should try it". "Oh no, you should try it my way".  Basically I think wahoo is just good.  We left for 2 days this morning and we're pumped.  We had a report of a floating kelp pattie that was producing good days for many boats this morning so we thought we'd give it a try too.  Thankfully it was all rigged up with a flag and a reflector and stuff because the sun was getting low by the time we made it out there and I'm not sure we would have found it without it.  Anyways like most rigged kelps there was a school with it and it bit pretty well  for us for about an hour and then it got dark.  The fish were tuna.  A bit on the smaller side but that's what's around and that's what everyone's been catching so we were cool with it too.

 Tomorrow we're hoping to get down and crazy with some dorado.  We heard of a zone with some floating kelp with schools of those colorful fish and we're going to try and find some.

 We have a new PA system on board and that thing pumps.  Holy Toledo can that thing put out some power.  I think I could take that thing to Petco Park and announce a Padre game with it.  Just some more raw power for the Polaris Supreme.
        

Aug 15

Good evening folks. We departed today on the long running Heil 5 day charter with a bunch of familiar faces and a handfull of welcomed new ones. Our first stop was the bait recievers and boy oh boy did we get a good load of bait. Best one of the year thus far. Healthy, slimy and lively. It all starts there. It was a normal departure day of lunch, naps and fishing seminars. With mixed reports from slow to ok in the bluefin zone, we're going to start off looking in the area we finished up looking in yesterday. We'll see what we come up with and take it from there. Wish us luck.

~~Aug. 19
 The ball stopped rolling for us today.  We got it rolling briefly but then it hit a hill again.  We started where we left off last night.  We weren't alone.  We just weren't seeing the schools on the edge of the fleet so we mosied our way up to the next area and we were late to that party.  So again we mosied our way up and at 1:30 we were still skunked.  We got off on our own and then finally spotted a breezer up and got on it and it bit pretty well for a while.  We caught 50, mostly the good grade yellowfin before they quit biting.  After that we really didn't see much for the rest of the day.  It was our day today.  Hopefully we can turn it around tomorrow.

 If you think about it though, the fish we caught yesterday were free, so if you add it to what we caught today, we had a stellar day.  I like to think of it like that.

 We're going to try to catch some bait tonight.  We have enough for tomorrow, but if we have a good day like I expect, we may be out of position to catch bait the following night so we're going to try and get it done tonight.

We fished this morning without much luck. The one that we did hook the shark ate. So this will be another chapter for Bob Vance in his charter diary. Everybody had a great time and we look forward to seeing them all back again next year for Bob's annual trip. We will be in to the dock at 5:30am. We depart on Garry Roberts 9-day tomorrow morning. Myself as well as the crew are anxious to get down to Alijos. The fishing reports have been really good and we are looking forward to having our own great reports. Good evening guys and gals, This morning we departed on our annual Let's Talk Hook-Up 4 day. We were able to get off the dock early and fill our tanks with some really great looking sardines. Shortly after leaving the harbor we conducted our famous tackle and fishing seminar and got right to fishing! We had pretty spectacular afternoon filled with leaping Dorado and even some big bruiser yellowtail. We really could not have asked for a better first day of fishing! Everyone had a chance to pull on some fish, which was a great way to warm up for the fishing to come! We finished off the day with a beautiful Prime Rib dinner and got to bed early to be well rested for yellow fin fishing we will be doing tomorrow! Tight lines and depleting fish tags, Team Supreme

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this morning with SDFR with an update from "the San Diego" out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today we are back fishing at the Coronado Islands. We have 10 nice grade Yellowtail on the boat so far as of 10:55 AM. The fish are in the 15 to 23 pound size. The San Diego runs full day trips departing at 5:30 every morning!
