sunshine skyway Fishing Report 2025

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out of Seaforth Landing to report that the Yellowtail are starting to bite down at the Coronados. Yesterday we had 96 Yellowtail and today we 114 Yellowtail for 30 anglers, come on down the are biting everything. We are getting them on surface iron, yoyo jigs, dropper loops and fly lining baits, the water is very nice and clean. When you come down make sure to bring your passport as it is required.

I have three more fishing opportunities on the Apollo. Berkley will sponsoring three overnight Channel Island trips. These will be sea bass and rock fish type adventures. There will be give aways and raffles on board compliments of Berkley and Pure Fishing. Everyone will receive goodies for fishing.  Good evening friends from the bridge of the Polaris Supreme. I'd like to start with a little recap of the Gary Roberts 9 day trip. What an epic trip! We really did cover all the grounds you cover on a 9 day and boated all the species that we were looking for. Although we didn't get the numbers on the dorado that we were looking for, we more than made up for it in wahoo and tuna counts. I really think Drew did an exceptional job of trip planning with avoinding any bad weather and putting us in position for the best fishing we could possibly have. I don't recall the last time in my 9 years on the boat that we've had that consistant fishing for the "skinny's" as we did. The guys fished hard and were rewared for there efforts. We ended the last couple days of the trip at the tuna grounds to pick up a handful of quality bluefin to settle jackpot and all you could eat beautiful grade of yelloefin tuna from 20-40 lbs. What an awesome 9 day! We really missed you this year Gary and look forward to seeing you back next year with the same group of awesome guys you bring out year after year.
 We also departed this morning on our 6th annual 5 day trip with Robin Gledhill and his Blue-White Industries charter. We are always excited to have these guys out with us. It's quite the unique trip with a special menu, different types of wine every night depending on the dinner all the way to our fancy dinner attire consisting of the classic tuxedo t-shirts! Love it! You never know what Robin is going to bring to the table. We started offshore looking around on the tuna grounds to get the lines wet, didn't find much to start, but fishing the first day of a 5 day is a bonus anyway. Tomorrow at the crack of light and get this party started. The weather looks great so far and looks just as good for the next few days, so let's hope the weather man is telling the truth.
 It's almost that time to head downstairs for some grilled pork chops and the wine of the night Chalk Hill Chardonnay, for the passengers of course. Robin also wants to send a shout out to Janet, Taylor who couldn't join us this year because him and his wife are due to have a little one any day now, and all of the rest of his friends and family that are tuning in over the next 5 days.
 Before I check out though, I do have to mention some day and a half and 2 day tuna trips that we've added here starting at the end of September. Hi friends. Well, here we are. Fingers to the keyboard once again and anyone who knows me, knows that I can't type without jamming out to my Wiz Khalifa! Anyhow, Team Supreme; living the dream, one nautical mile at a time. Yep. Our maintenance period is complete and we are bound for greater points south. Chef Schooler just kicked out the prime rib and all the passengers and crew are fat and happy. With that being said, you know it's our first night back on the boat and we're kicking off our 2013 Summer season with our amigo Archie and his Motley Crue that he's invited along with him. Here we go...

We departed Fisherman's Landing this morning and headed to the bait receivers to load up on some sardines, mackerel, and anchovies. With that, I'd like to say two things: One - I would want no part of being a bait boat skipper right now. No part. Those guys are busting their you-know-whats to load our wells with sardines and it's not easy going right now. Kudos to those men. Two - I've now witnessed a bait-making seminar on a five-day trip. Is this 1992? I feel like I'm a part of history. When the bait loading gets tough, the tough get sabiki rigs. One could moan and groan forever about what we don't have but as Jed and Sweet Georgia Brown like to say "ain't nobody got time for that!" Anyways, we've got an OK load of bait and we'll see how those little critters live in the morning.

We'd like to use said sardines, mackerels, and anchovies on some bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, and yellowtail tomorrow so we'll be in the hot offshore zone seeing if we can't put our bait to good use. I'd like to say a word about the bluefin fishing other than how much I love it: a boat caught a 175 lb. bluefin today and had the same size fish jumping around the boat. Bring the appropriate gear! Don't go elephant hunting with a .22. Bring yourself a two-speed reel and fill that bad boy up with some 50 or 60 lb at least!

Man, I'm all over the place tonight. So, back on track. We're going offshore fishing tomorrow, the weather is lovely, and everyone is pretty lit up right now and ready to pull on something. We'll see what tomorrow brings and we'll report it to you ASAP, you know that.

Before I go, one last bit of nonsense. Jed was attacked by a seal today. It was hilarious. The bait receivers are no joke, they've got this one knothead that has no fear and although I saw no fear in the seals eyes, I saw plenty in Jed's and I laughed. Next thing you know--after Jed nearly trampled me--his  eyes locked with mine and it was on! But, I was laughing so hard at Jed's reaction that I couldn't move and just like that, he vanished. Although we're clear of scars on our bodies, we're emotionally scarred and we're now damaged goods. Hopefully, we can recover and be able to load bait in peace with our friendly pelicans. Anyhow, that was my favorite part of the day and I had to share with everyone. Classic.

Alright, enough of my babble. Mark's driving, Springsteen on the Ipod, and we're talking about the glory days. Mark has a few more glory days under his belt because he's 97 years old but I've got a glory story to tell as well. We're out.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-10-2019 Again we had another great weather day. Fishing was slower with just a little bit of quality. We got some nice grouper and Wahoo for the day. Spent a lot of time looking for a kelp with Dorado to no avail. Looks like we're going to have to make a move for tomorrow! The Polaris supreme crew!

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-19-2016 Hello Everyone, Today we woke up having hopes of a repeat day of yesterday. We started off the day by hooking a nice yellowfin of the same size quality as yesterday, but the school did not stick. We had our work cut out for us chasing school after school, spot after spot with the same results. The tuna had lock jaw today and had very suspect behavior of line shy bluefin tuna. Needless to say it was tough, we scraped up another school sized tuna and had a nice flash of yellowtail right at sunset. A nice way to finish off a great trip with a small shooter of yellowtail right before we rode off into the sunset and pointed to boat to San Diego. We Would like to thank Dave Dolan for putting together a great "lets talk hook up" four day trip. We sure had a great time catching some yellows and some of the best quality tuna we will likely see on a four day trip. We will be in bright and early tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by, Team Supreme
